The concept of a compact monocular with high magnification is great. However in reality, the field of view is so small at 30x that is is nearly impossible to find what you're looking for. Though it you're using it at the lower magnifications it works well. The same issues hold true with the brightness at high magnifications. Since the objective lens is so small (it is a compact monocular) there's not much light coming in.
That being said, it's a great tool to have on hand and doesn't take up much space. Though if you don't mind a bigger size, spend the money on compact binoculars or toward a larger monocular.Get more detail about Brunton Echo Zoom Monocular 10-30x21.
